Imagine Romanian as an architectural structure with two layered components! The first consists of the foundation and the building material. The latter is the outward appearance which gives the Romanian Language its unique profile.

From a linguistic point of view, the foundation means Grammar rules, Phonetic principles and Lexical classes. The building materials are of course, the words from the Basic Vocabulary (approximately 2000). The outward appearance is being able to speak Romanian in countless everyday situations.
